Jozani Forest
Home to the rare Red Colobus monkeys and diverse tropical flora in this protected forest reserve.
About Jozani Forest
Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park is Zanzibar's only national park and is famous for being the home of the endemic Zanzibar Red Colobus monkey. The park covers 50 square kilometers and includes the groundwater forest, salt marshes, and mangrove swamps. The forest is part of the larger Jozani-Chwaka Bay ecosystem, which is crucial for the island's water supply and biodiversity conservation. The park represents the last remnant of the indigenous forest that once covered much of Zanzibar. Besides the famous Red Colobus monkeys, the forest is home to over 100 tree species, various bird species, and other wildlife including Sykes' monkeys, bush babies, and numerous butterfly species.
